LightWave Digital has released LightWave 2026, a major update to the 3D animation and rendering software, bringing a host of new features and improvements. This release marks the fourth major update since LightWave Digital acquired the software from Vizrt in 2023, ending three years of stagnation. The software is now used across various industries, including illustration, visualization, and VFX, with notable projects like The Conjuring: Last Rites and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The update introduces a range of new tools and systems, including a physics-based scene layout system, a vehicle rigging toolset, and advanced 2D and 3D tracking systems. VFX artists benefit from new features for destruction, lighting, and snow effects, while architectural artists gain support for parallax shading and ivy generators. The release also includes updates to 3D modeling, UV editing, scene layout, rigging, and animation tools, as well as a new asset browser and OctaneRender integration. LightWave 2026 is available for Windows 10+ and macOS 14.1+, with new licenses costing £795 (around $1,070). The software's versatility and powerful new features make it an exciting development in the 3D animation and rendering space, offering artists and professionals a comprehensive toolkit for their creative endeavors.
